Star-war: framework to analyze existing world problems

A movie made in early 1977 very soon became a prodigy of the era to an extent that still divulge the problems associated with modern democracy, trade system (corporate) and the evil forces (terrorism, imperialistic , anarchy and dictatorship).
The movie is a setup in a far away Galactic Empire where billions of inhabited rational living being (not only homosapiens) living on different planets has adopted a democratic style of living by bringing all their planets under the rule of a central assembly. The main regulatory body is the central assembly consisting of wise and selfless senators elected from these planets. To protect democracy from evil forces and crush coups, the democracy has developed army of valiant soldiers known as Jedi Knights. The agenda for fight especially in the movie is between Jedi knights who are helping regulatory authority to maintain peace and justice and protect the people of empire (democracy) from evil forces.
Just as the creeping shadows of war, race-riots, and superpower stand-offs were threatening to swamp the late 1970s, George Lucas lit the world with this operatic science fiction fairy story full of spectacle, special effects, and above all hope of a oppression free society. The entire movie setup is innovative and it is evident from:-
1) Innovative anatomy with variance in socio-psycho dimension used in the movie to gather the interest of audience. The character are like Ja-Ja Bin is extremely comic but very effective in deciding the fate of Galactic Empire
2) The design of space ship, weapons (which can become the means of future warfare), Cyborg, Planets atmosphere and lithosphere , Cultures on various planets etc… speaks highly of Star Wars innovativeness. This innovative approach conveys the message in a very effective fashion simultaneously providing entertainment to the masses.
If we analyze the movie we can observe lots of analogy with the existing world problems
Regulatory Body- There is a regulatory body, The Republic of Galactic Empire which strives to bring about uniformity (equity concept) and have a common goal of development. It has to protect the weaker planets from the oppressive rules and chaos under the democracy umbrella.
Hobbes rule – Star Wars have planets where there is no regulatory body. The home planets from where Anakin Skywalker is picked has no government. There is chaos and no regulation. The current existing Pakistani and some of the Middle East regions can be compared to that.
Business- The coup in planet of Naboo is a symbolic representation of corporate dominance of modern era. The trade federation is so strong that it takes over the government working in line with it major stakeholder.
Media- Apply the Herman - Chomsky propaganda model of Media activity to socialize people into the institution of society through systematic use of propaganda, the movie propagates the ambiguity associated with the parliamentary politics and power play. It sends a signal for public to be wise in selection of their representatives in governing bodies.
Rent Seeking- He highlights the problem associated with the free riders and rent seeking intentions by various individuals and organizations. The take over of Planet Naboo and the Trade federation tries to twist the regulatory body to make it legal by getting support from some of the senators.
The movie Star Wars highlighted several problems associated with modern regulatory forms and the fight for power. It showed variety of cultures within one existing democratic umbrella which is quite metaphor to modern UN and GATT regime. The regulatory body has a task to maintain peace provide protection and justice for the strong as well as weaker planets falling under its regime.
The parallel council of Jedi Knights to enforce peace and justice and work with in line with the mission of Republic is analogues to the current Indian Government system, where the defense forces work according to orders of Parliament (the senates). The film uses the metaphor from modern economic, democratic , cultural and defense setup and comes up with a vivid graphics which not only entertains but conveys the various problems associated with regulatory bodies, trade system, imperialistic intentions etc.. as faced by the world or can be a problem for the future world.
Star Wars made epic fantasy real. Today it is only pc games that will offer a deeper and more satisfying entertainment solution, but for pure visual and aural pleasure, mixed with basic emotional manipulation, there has never and will never be a better example of cinema than star wars . Maybe this star war also throws up some solution for existing international problems. Maybe the entire democratic and sovereign nation combined to form a legendary force and council like of wise Jedi-Knights to handle problems like terrorism, women, children, drug and arms trafficking. We have seen how dire consequences due to result of single enemy has brought families fighting among each other for generations, together and this can happen again.

My First Job at Hindustan Zinc Limited: The Day I Fought a Battle That Wasn’t in the Job Description

Hindustan Zinc Limited, 2004 There are first jobs — and then there was HZL. Hindustan Zinc Limited was a giant in mining and metals: structured, hierarchical, and system-driven. And there I was — a freshly minted IIT graduate, quietly waiting for my University of Waterloo call letter, treating HZL as nothing more than a temporary stopgap. It didn’t take long to sense the mismatch. Instinctively, I knew this wasn’t an environment where I would stay long. But life, as it often does, had other plans. The Unexpected Reunion On the very first day of induction, I noticed a familiar name on the HR list: Surbhi Shrivastava. The same Surbhi from my school days — admired, visible, graceful, socially confident. Back then, we had never really spoken. I was the quiet topper, known more through exaggerated stories told by teachers and backbenchers than through actual presence. So when I introduced myself that day, her response was simple: Professional courtesy. Polite indifference. No recognition. ...

The Year Friends Changed My Life

There was a time at Don Bosco's, Patna when I was completely bored with my classmates. They were decent people, but not adventurous enough for the restless energy I carried inside. Somewhere deep within, I felt there had to be more interesting people in the world — people who questioned things, laughed loudly, and carried a little rebellion in their spirit. By Class 7, I had almost given up on school and, in some strange way, on life itself. To make matters worse, I fractured my hand that year. What should have been a temporary inconvenience became a convenient excuse. I stopped going to school regularly, hiding behind the bandage and my boredom. Still, one thing about me was constant — somehow I would pass my exams even if the world was about to end. So Class 7 passed by quietly. Then came Class 8, and something unusual happened. That year the school failed almost 20% of the students in each class. At the time it felt harsh, but looking back, it felt as if the universe had qui...

Under the Tree: The Story of Munna and a Friendship That Refuses to Fade

Some friendships begin in classrooms, some in playgrounds, and some over shared interests. Ours began under a tree. My first school had no building, no corridors, and no polished floors. It was simply a primary school under a large tree , meant for children from poor families like mine. In those days I was growing up in what felt like the poorest corner of the poorest state of a poor country. Life was simple, and resources were scarce. School, for me, was not exciting. I disliked the discipline — the idea of sitting in one place, listening, repeating lessons. Even a school under a tree felt restrictive to a restless child. I would have happily wandered in fields or played by the river instead. But that was where I met Munna . Munna was one year older than me. In that early chaos of childhood, he became the first person outside my family who mattered deeply. At that age we didn’t know words like friendship , loyalty , or bond . But somehow we already understood them. Soon Mun...
