Love & Economics!

In this industrial age finding anything true & natural is like finding a star in any of the urban skies. Humans have a tendency to mess up with natural things. One of the significant things that they have messed up is love. Contamination of love began mostly since the advent of industrialization in sync with air pollution.  Ancient Greek philosophers identified five forms of love: essentially, familial love, friendly love or platonic love, romantic love, guest love, and divine love. Modern authors have distinguished further varieties of love: unrequited love, infatuated love, self-love, and courtly love. But for the topic of discussion, these classifications may not suffice. This love is limited to the horizon of humans and quintessentially love is spread over all living beings and almost all species have shown akin course of action when it comes to love. The important question here is whether there is any relation between economics and love. What special is to be human, econo...

Is India a Communist nation ?

I always wonder how come the regulation related to wealthy individuals are passed and executed overnight without too much resistance. On the contrary, when a bill is to be drafted for the service of poor, deprived people it faces tonnes of hindrance. And if they do get passed, the policy files bite the dust on the racks of the Indian Parliament. Judicial cases related to rich and influential shorted out overnight with jovial conclusions as if we live in a mutually amicable society letting the criminals go. Most of the time wealthy culprits for heinous crimes find favors reading in between the lines of Indian Laws. Long live Adam Smith and his views that this world is better made into a marketplace to attain efficiency and development. India is not a communist country. It is a democratic republic with a mixed economy that combines elements of socialism and capitalism. The country's political system is based on democratic principles, where the government is elected by the people and ...

Making Sense of Nirvana!!!!

The Buddha's death was not like the death of unenlightened beings, for whom it is only one more stage in the cycle of rebirth and suffering. Having, after innumerable existences in divine, human, and animal form, attained Enlightenment, he was released from that cycle. What happens to an enlightened person after death is a question the Buddha refused to answer. None of the categories of human thought apply to the Tathagata, the `Perfect One', and therefore this question makes no sense. The recorded sayings of early monks and nuns unmistakably show that Nirvana is experienced as a state of ineffable calm, a joyous tranquillity. The Buddha said: `There is a sphere which is neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor air, which is not the sphere of the infinity of space, nor the sphere of the infinity of consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, which is neither this world nor the other world, neither sun nor moon. I deny that it ...

My First Job at Hindustan Zinc Limited: The Day I Fought a Battle That Wasn’t in the Job Description

Hindustan Zinc Limited, 2004 There are first jobs — and then there was HZL. Hindustan Zinc Limited was a giant in mining and metals: structured, hierarchical, and system-driven. And there I was — a freshly minted IIT graduate, quietly waiting for my University of Waterloo call letter, treating HZL as nothing more than a temporary stopgap. It didn’t take long to sense the mismatch. Instinctively, I knew this wasn’t an environment where I would stay long. But life, as it often does, had other plans. The Unexpected Reunion On the very first day of induction, I noticed a familiar name on the HR list: Surbhi Shrivastava. The same Surbhi from my school days — admired, visible, graceful, socially confident. Back then, we had never really spoken. I was the quiet topper, known more through exaggerated stories told by teachers and backbenchers than through actual presence. So when I introduced myself that day, her response was simple: Professional courtesy. Polite indifference. No recognition. ...

Candid Letter to self.

We just did our Advanced Meditation Program, my first one after a long futile denial . One of the instructors advised us to write a letter for self-correction limited to five mistakes. It was a great idea so I did it, I have been sincere with my homework anyway. "Dear Kamlesh, How are you? Hope you are doing good. In this letter, I would like to outline 5 pieces of advice that you need to improve your life. First of all , you need to give up your short temper. In anger, you lose your rationale and the situation is not optimally harnessed. Second , you need to stop doing things/jobs that you are not really interested in. As a child, if you are not interested in anything, it is best not to pursue it. You can be a good student, but not a good athlete. You can be a good scientist, but not a good musician. You can be a great doctor, but not a great lawyer. Third , you should not be too honest. Make sure not to set a marker for your message. You need to allow the other person to de...

Keys to becoming irresistible.

How often we come across a personality soft and appealing that we had long desired to hang around with. What is that quality which one asks for in his/her life partner? What is that quality that every employer always looks out in the candidate during job interviews? The character traits hold above all. When pressed with queries about these traits people would always stumble upon something common but likely to be not correct: honesty, humor, confidence, charisma, etc.. These may be the correct answer but not enough to sell oneself as a product. If you were to run a principal component analysis gathering these traits and finally listing the traits on priority then you would be surprised that your top three listings would cover your most of the traits. These three traits, when found together, will create an ultimate attractive personality who is in command, in control of destiny, one who is both altruistic and intelligent.  1. Humility  Humility is an outward ...

In search of Bliss

The Evolution of Sorrow and the Rarity of Bliss Let us disregard the period before human existence, as it holds no relevance to this pursuit. Over thousands of years, planet Earth has become well-acquainted with sorrow. These sorrows multiplied as the gap between humans and animals widened. As desires grew, so did disappointments, and what was once a common state of bliss among the masses became increasingly scarce. What is Bliss? Bliss is a state of complete happiness or profound joy. Have you ever practiced the mindset where no matter what your companions choose to do, the only emotions you allow yourself to experience are happiness or neutrality? In essence, you are telling them, "You cannot push my buttons." This form of emotional discipline fosters an unshakable inner peace. Some associate bliss with ignorance, a perspective that many accept in modern civilization. While ignorance may shield one from certain sufferings, true bliss is not about avoiding reality but maste...

Responsibility of Engineers above the government in a Democracy.

Corruption is often seen as a byproduct of monetarism — an unfortunate side effect of money-driven economies. But in reality, corruption is not a side effect. It’s the foundation of the current system . The elite have always had the power to influence governments, no matter how democratically elected. Human vulnerability to temptation makes this influence inevitable. Democracy, while noble in theory, often leaves us choosing between technically inept candidates to solve complex problems. But technical problems require technical minds . That’s where engineers and technologists come in. 🧠 Why Technologists, Not Politicians, Hold the Real Solutions Unlike career politicians, engineers are trained to analyze, optimize, and solve. They understand constraints — limited resources, high demands — and know how to work within them efficiently. India’s very nature demands such technical solutions. With its vast population and scarce resources, only enterprise driven by engineerin...
